1995.5 Audi S6 Quattro

5-speed | Rare color combination | 5-cylinder turbo

Sold

The Audi S6 is the performance variant of the Audi A6 executive car which debuted in 1994, replacing the Audi 100 nameplate previously used for the chassis. Somewhat confusingly, the same body style was called the S4 prior to 1994. The change in moniker was a result of the B5 chassis launch and the complete renaming of Audi’s model lineup to what we know today. When Audi debuted the B5 A4 in 1994, the S4 was redesignated the S6 to avoid confusion between the newer and smaller A4/S4 sedan. The “UrS6”, as this car is called by enthusiasts, competed with iconic sports sedans such as the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz 500E.

The UrS6, as the Audi enthusiast community calls it, was powered by a 2.2 Liter inline 5-cylinder turbo engine—a derivation of the same powerplant that propelled the iconic Audi SportQuattro rally cars. Producing 227HP and 258 lb-ft of torque, all S6s were three-pedal cars in North America, and the AAN motor with its 5-speed transmission shepherded the S6 to 60MPH in 6 seconds, a respectable pace for a large 1990’s sport sedan! The S6 was available in both Saloon and Avant (wagon) body styles.

All 1995 S6s are rare cars, and even rarer to find in the color combination of Europa Blue Metallic over Ecru leather worn by the example on offer here. The exterior finish could use refreshing, with wear accumulated over its 157,000 miles of use. Some clear coat failure on the all-original paint is visible on upper surfaces, but no peeling as of yet—common on 90’s Audis. Exterior features include 7.5×16″ aluminum “Avus” wheels, Quattro all-wheel drive, ABS brakes, and a fully galvanized body that shows no evidence of corrosion. The chassis does display some surface corrosion, but underbody components appear solid and free from rot. The car retains its stock suspension and disc brakes at all four corners.

The leather Ecru colored Nappa leather interior exhibits similar wear, with a torn driver’s seat bolster and various scuffs, marks, and stains. The sport steering wheel with integrated driver’s side airbag is in good condition, however, as are all the interior wood trim components. Power features include windows, door locks, sunroof, side mirrors, seat controls with all function properly. Interior comforts in this S6 are plentiful, with automatic climate control, heated front and rear seats and a Bose stereo system with an aftermarket head unit.

Mechanically this S6 is in good running condition, starting well with a steady idle and pulls strongly with brisk acceleration in all gears. The 5-speed manual transmission is a touch notchy when cold, but shifts smoothly when the car is warm. Timing belt service is unknown and service records are not available.

Being a 1995.5 car, the electronic differential is automatic and the car has the upgraded central locking system with radio, vs. infrared remote control key fob.

With its rarity, reserved styling, subtle badging, quality construction and respectable performance and handling, this S6 would make a fantastic driver or restoration candidate for those who dare to be different.

The car is offered with a clean Virginia title and antique registration by the seller.
