LA Dismantlers is Getting Dismantled
Sean Rooks | February 7, 2025

Today’s Good Find Friday find isn’t a car, but rather loads of parts from which you could probably build one. Offered on Proxibid and kicking off on February 20th is the liquidation sale of LA Dismantlers. Billed as the largest used Porsche parts inventory in the US, the auction also includes tools, storage, and more.

Being an East-coaster, LA Dismantlers wasn’t really on my radar as a parts source, but it appears to be pretty well known by those who live in the area. The business was open for 26 years and co-founded by Todd Dakarmenjian. In addition to parts it appears the company also served up a healthy serving of drama, with Todd having faced gun charges and claims of running an illegal chop shop.
Tragically, it’s reported that Todd took his own life while in police custody and his wife Sara attempted to make a go of keeping the business floating. Legal issues with Todd’s family are rumored to have necessitated the sale. More information can be found in this article on Rennlist.
No buyer came forward to purchase the entire stock of inventory, so the parts are being sold on the open market in a liquidation auction. LA Dismantlers’ loss is your gain, and many of the parts that would typically be subject to the “Porsche tax” at retail will now be available at closeout sale pricing. It would appear that most of the parts remaining were sourced from late-model cars, but there are some gems hidden in the catalog.

It’s said that only 27 Porsche 930 Turbo Targas were built for the 1987 model year, making this crash-damaged shell worthy of repair, in my opinion. As an added bonus, the car appears to be painted in the rarely seen color of Diamond Blue Metallic. The front end damage appears pretty extensive and much of the car’s parts are missing, but what a great outlaw car this could make!

For those that fancy the “flachbau” variant of Porsche 911, steel is always preferred over fiberglass for converting a wide-body 911 to slant-nose spec. I didn’t see any corresponding rear quarters with straked intakes, but these steel slant-nose 911 fenders would at least get you part of the way there. How about mounting these up on the shell listed above?

X308 Jaguar XJs are already cheap, but this one could probably be obtained for pennies on the dollar. Looking like a candidate for a full detail video by AMMO NYC, this XJ-8 has been sitting for at least 7 years and will need a lot of work. As far as I can tell, however, it’s the only complete car for sale in the auction.
Final Thoughts
Perhaps most of this inventory is going to be bought out by another yard or parts company, but if you need a 4.8L V8 engine for your Cayenne or a BendPak lift for your shop, you may be able to pick it up cheap at this sale. Being offered on Proxibid instead of a major auction house or platform should help keep this auction under the radar.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
