On September 25, 2002, the Porsche brand changed forever. On this day, the first-generation Porsche Cayenne debuted at the Paris Motor Show, marking the first V8 Porsche produced since the 928 and the first production 4-door vehicle from the storied German sports car maker.

The Cayenne went on to be a critically important vehicle for the company and continues to be a successful model line to this day. Acquired in June of 2024, this well-preserved first-generation 2006 Porsche Cayenne S is now offered for sale by the owner of Wolf and Mare with a clean Virginia title and current registration. As a testament to its state of preservation and care, the car won a Gmünd Gold award and first in class at the 2026 Porsche Parade Concours d’Elegance.

Model History

Co-developed with the Volkswagen Touareg, the first Cayenne shared much of its underlying architecture with the SUV from the more humble people’s car company. The base 955-generation Cayenne even shared its 3.2-liter V6 powerplant with the Touareg, while the Cayenne S was treated to an all-new (for Porsche) aluminum-alloy 4.5-liter V8. Both cars were luxurious, but the Cayenne was lavished with sports car-derived exterior styling and more premium interior appointments. Both vehicles were well-known for their off-road prowess, though this ability was downgraded somewhat in later generations.

This 2006 Cayenne S has performed some light towing duty on a few occasions, but no off-road excursions were conducted during current ownership. Used mostly for its long-distance grand touring comfort, the car has made trips up and down the east coast — most notably annual trips to Amelia Island and attendance at the 2026 Porsche Parade in Lake Placid, New York.

The Vehicle on Offer

Originally delivered to Richmond, Virginia and sold by Euroclassics Porsche (now Porsche Richmond), the car has lived its entire life in central Virginia and was regularly maintained at the original selling dealer. In 2017, the car was purchased by a German military member stationed at Fort Lee, VA. The car continued to be serviced by Euroclassics during this time until it was sold to another German military member stationed near Williamsburg, VA in 2022. This owner also maintained the car fastidiously, and sold the car to the seller in 2024 when the owner returned to Germany.

This Cayenne S was built in August of 2025 and features Jarama Beige Metallic paint over a two-tone Havanna and Sand Beige leather interior. Exterior features include body-colored front and rear valances, aluminum-look roof rails, polished exhaust tips, body-color rear hatch spoiler, 18” Cayenne Turbo wheels with painted center caps, moonroof, foglights, Bi-Xenon headlights with washers, and factory trailer hitch.

The exterior condition is very good overall, with glossy paint and no significant dents, dings or scrapes. Some chips and flaws dot the exterior due to age and use. To add some racing-derived style, protect the edge and conceal a small blemish, a vinyl stripe adorns the front of the hood. Aftermarket daytime running lights were installed in the front grills by a previous owner. The car presents very well with much of the finish appearing to be original, with some areas of paintwork visible.

Havanna and Sand Beige two-tone leather covers the interior, which is in very good overall condition. From the factory, this Cayenne S was optioned with comfort Seats with memory, front seat heat, PCM 2.1 with phone module, Porsche crests embossed in the front headrests, roll-up sunscreens in the rear windows, dark burl maple wood interior trim extended to the steering wheel, comfort lighting package, and supple leather seating surfaces.

A BOSE surround sound system was standard on the Cayenne S. There are some small blemishes here and there including some touch-ups on the steering wheel buttons, but the interior is in very well-preserved condition. Aftermarket features include window tint and a new head unit featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and rear backup camera. The headliner was replaced with a near-exact match to the factory color and weave. The trunk is clean, with a few scuffs from use. A good quality dark window tint was applied at some point in the past, and it does help quite a bit in the Virginia heat.

Under the hood, the engine bay is tidy and clean. The 4.5-liter V8 engine puts out 340hp and 310 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. From the factory, the Cayenne’s all-wheel drive system featured a reduction gear for off-roading and an electronically-controlled center differential lock, both engaged from a switch on the center console. The engine’s plastic coolant tubes — a common failure point — have been upgraded to solid metal units, the passenger side valve cover gasket was replaced to address an oil leak, and the power steering fluid, pump and reservoir have been replaced during the seller’s ownership. The engine currently runs well and throws no codes.

The standard suspension on the 955-generation Cayenne was steel springs, though air suspension was an option. For long-term reliability and reduced maintenance costs, many prefer the steel suspension, which is fitted to this example. The undercarriage of the car is in excellent condition and clearly hasn’t seen much (if any) winter use. The car has not been driven during the winter months while in the care of the seller.

Standard 18” Cayenne Turbo wheels are mounted at all four corners and wear a set of Firestone Destination LE3 tires in size 255/55 R18. The tires were installed in June of 2026 and have excellent tread depth. The wheels wear their original silver finish and exhibit some small scuffs and chips. One wheel has light curbing. The front brakes on the Cayenne are monster 6-piston Brembo units up front and 4-piston in the rear. All rotors are solid discs to avoid issues with debris during off-road use. The car stops and brakes as it should.

Included with the vehicle are two remote key fobs, owner’s manual, retractable rear cargo net, factory space-saver spare, tool kit and compressor.

Excellence Magazine’s 2026 vehicle price guide values the 2004-2006 Cayenne S at between $8,000 and $13,000 for cars in average to excellent condition. A browse through previous Bring a Trailer listings demonstrates that exceptional, low-mileage examples can hammer for even more. Given this example’s sub-100,000 miles and splendid condition — worthy of a concours award — the car is priced at $12,000 with the seller open to reasonable offers.

This lovely 2006 Cayenne S could be enjoyed as-is, improved to boost its already high concours score, or used as a reliable basis for conversion to off-road use.
